When the Perfect comes - Meditation on 1 Cor 13

When the Perfect comes
Meditation on 1 Cor 13
13 September 2010
1 Cor. 13:9-11            ‘we know in part and we prophecy in part, but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away. When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways.’

GIFTS AND LOVE

Does this passage tell us that the gifts are not important, or not so very important? I think not! Paul is trying to show us how to exercise the gifts of the Holy Spirit in a ‘more excellent way’ (1 Cor 12:30). Meaning it is not an ‘either gifts or love’ choice. The better way is the gifts with the love of God. The gifts exercised in such a way that the recipient experiences the love of God in the impartation. He is not saying that Love is more important; he only says that the gifts without love are meaningless and empty. It has no power. It is only a sounding gong. It will profit me nothing, and it is unlikely to bear fruit in the recipient.
Some have argued that the same portion of Scripture says that prophecy will pass away, and that tongues will cease (v 8), meaning that the gifts are not as important as love. But the same verses also say that the ways of a child will pass away. It doesn’t mean that the child will pass away. It only says that the child will grow up, and leave behind his childish ways. We do not kill the child to have him grow into a mature person. We only lay aside the immature ways. In the same way we do not stop the prophesying or the miracles, or any of the gifts; we must only stop exercising these gifts without love.
In fact the apostle is encouraging the church to earnestly desire the spiritual gifts and at the same time to pursue love (1 Cor 14:1;39). He desires everybody to prophesy (v5). Prophecy seems to be the vehicle whereby so many of the gifts are ministered to people. Word of wisdom comes by speaking; so does the word of knowledge; so does discerning of spirits; tongues, and interpretation. The Corinthian church does not seem to have lacked in the manifestation of the gifts, but in the manifestation of the gifts accompanied by love. They may have had the gifts, but lacked the power of God.

GOD IS LOVE

Paul goes on the say that we now ‘see as in a mirror dimly, but then face to face’ (v 12). Ancient mirrors were made of polished metals like bronze, and one’s reflection was even more dim than in modern mirrors. But he must be referring to the day when we shall see Jesus face to face. 1 John 3:2 says that when we see him we shall be like Him. We shall be changed into His likeness. God is love. When God comes, Love comes. We shall live in the fullness of His love. We shall love with His love. We shall view one another clearly and be moved by the compassion that Jesus had when He walked upon the earth. We shall have perfect wisdom, knowledge, faith, power to work miracles, and discerning the truth. The gifts will not be gone, it will simply be enveloped, clothed in His love.
There is an apparent move of God today in His church worldwide that is restoring the truth of the Gospel. A new revelation of the Truth of the gospel and thus sound theology is at the root of every new move of God. However, let us not view this truth in cold academic terms. Truth is in Jesus. As we pursue Him, let us press on to know Him. Let us be baptised into Him and into His love. I feel the promise of God is that, as we meet he person of Christ in a greater knowing, we shall be filled with His spirit afresh. We shall be filled with His spirit and His love. This will bring the manifestation of the gifts in a greater way. We shall do the works that Jesus did, and greater. (John 14:12) this is the time when we no longer do things to be seen by men and to receive glory from man. But our lives will drip with the love of God; with His compassion for the lost and the needy.

THE MESSAGE

God wants the Word and the Spirit to unite in the lives and hearts of His people; for the worshipers to worship Him in Spirit and in Truth. In the same way I believe God wants the church to arise in the fullness of the manifestation of the spirit, and all the signs and gifts to be manifested, filled with His love. Jesus was moved by compassion; then He acted. He was the truth, and He manifested God’s love. This changed people’s lives. Jesus instructed the disciples to keep His commandments and to abide in His love. (John 15) By this the world will know. By this the message will get out; that the world may take notice. The Word united with Spirit, in the lives of ordinary Christians, and without the self serving and self glorifying traits of human nature. What a day this will be: When the Perfect One is ministering through us. When perfect Love, the love described in 1 Corinthians 13, is evident in our words and deeds! We may perhaps never reach the fullness this side of heaven; but we are encouraged to seek this ‘more excellent way’. To press on to it; to believe for it. Not to rest until we see more of him and less of our carnal natures.
Come, O perfect Lover! Pour out Your perfect Love.

Article ABOUT ♥I love you♥@True Love

♥I love you♥

It’s a sentence most of us have probably used at one time or another, though we probably don’t want elaborate on the context we’ve used it in.

But hey, what’s wrong with love?

Love is one of the central human emotions. We all experience love for someone or something, to varying degrees, at one time or another. Most of the time, when we think of love, it brings a warm, fuzzy, and sometimes naughty feeling – the type that makes us feel that nothing in the world matters, with the exception of our beloved.

We are often hushed up and reluctant to discuss love with anyone, except for maybe our close friends. But if we think about it, love isn’t something bad. In fact, it too is a blessing of Allah. Think: if there was no love in the world, every single person would fight everyone else. There would be no peace and happiness. The world would be a terrible place without love.

One of the strongest (if not the strongest) bonds of love are between family members. Thus, Allah has made all believers brothers (and sisters). That’s why we should try to love all Muslims as our brothers and sisters.

Allah (SW) has said:

"The believers are nothing else than brothers (in Islâmic religion)." (Quran, 49:10)

Love is natural. It enters the heart and leaves at will, and we don’t have much control over it. While we don’t have control over love, we do possess control over the actions it can lead us to.

In essence, love is good, but it is the actions that result from it that are of concern.

As with anything, there is a certain limit and transgressing the limit turns the good into bad. For instance, praying Salah is a good thing. No Muslim disputes this fact. However, if one prays Nafl (non-obligatory) Salah all night and misses Fajr (a Fardh or obligatory Salah) in the morning, then his praying Nafl all night becomes something bad. Likewise, if a man spends all day praying and doesn’t provide ample food, clothing, and shelter for his wife and children, then his praying all day becomes bad.

Similarly, if love for something or someone begins blocking us from the worship of Allah and from following his orders, the love also becomes a bad thing. If a person, for the love of his children, works all day long (so he can feed and clothe them well) and doesn’t pray and remember Allah, then his love for his children has evidently become bad for him. Allah Almighty says:

"O you who believe! Let not your properties or your children divert you from the remembrance of Allâh. And whosoever does that, then they are the losers." (Quran, 63:9)

In the same way, if the love leads us to forbidden acts that displease Allah, then again it becomes something bad.

Many times, the love for our beloved can lead us on to a very treacherous path. It can happen very slowly – so slowly that one often fails to realize what is about to transpire, and “things” just “seem to happen”.

In the Holy Quran, Allah has said:

"And come not near Zina (unlawful intercourse). Verily, it is a Fâhishah [i.e. anything that transgresses its limits (a great sin)], and an evil way (that leads one to Hell unless Allâh forgives him)." (Quran, 17:32)

Note here that Allah has said “and come not near” instead of saying “don’t do”. What does this tell us? The following hadith of the Prophet (SAW) explains the verse:

“The zina of the eyes is the gaze (at that which is unlawful); the zina of the ears is to listen (to talks that excite the carnal desire); the zina of the tongue is to speak (what is evil); the zina of the hand is to touch (the opposite sex which is unlawful to you); the zina of the feet is to walk (towards immorality); the zina of the heart is to desire (what is unlawful), and it is the private parts which either commits or shuns the actual act of fornication.” (Reported by Muslim)

If the love for a person leads us to any of the above, it is obviously crossing the limit. Be it through meeting, talking, or simply chatting, we must be careful that our love for our beloved doesn’t take us overboard. Love is natural, yet what it can lead to is what’s dangerous.

We all fall in love one time or the other. The key is to control the love and put the brakes on any potentially unlawful actions it may lead us to, no matter how minor they may seem.

Verily, short-lived is the love that leads to the displeasure of Allah (SW).

May Allah (SW) protect me and all of us from the love that leads to His displeasure. Ameen.

Stories About True Love Part 1 @ Mig Vidz

It's a cold February night. People are bustling through the streets, either pulling up their coat collars or wrapping scarves around their necks, trying to stay warm. It's so cold today. I'm standing at my window, looking at the people moving like little dots. Standing in a heated room, I'm beginning to pity those people. Why don't they go home? Do they plan on wandering until morning?
"Almost time to go home! My boyfriend must be going crazy." One of the nurses breathe a sign of relief.
"Still needs to work overtime on Valentine's Day. It's so unfair!"
"You are fortunate." Another nurse says.
"Some people don't have anyone waiting for them."
"You mean Dr. Shu?" Like Sherlock Holmes, my ears perk up when I hear my name.
"Do you remember how she lost control on this day last year?"
"Of course I do." A nurse shudders.
"I've never seen Dr. Shu like that. Crying and yelling, like she was crazy." They are talking about how I was last year. They are correct. I was out of control, like they said.
"You can't blame Dr. Shu. If my boyfriend died in front of my eyes, I would probably go crazy as well."
"Keep it down. She hasn't left work yet. She might hear you." The two nurses are too late. I heard the entire conversation through the canvas wall.
"Dr. Shu, what are you doing standing here?" Just as I was deciding whether or not to reveal myself, another nurse exposed me. I awkwardly step out. The 2 nurses who discussed me start to blush. Their faces became redder than the bow on the box of Valentine's Day chocolates.
"I'm waiting to go home." I pretend that I didn't hear anything.
"Dr. Shu, you must have gotten too involved in your work. It's already past time to go home. See you tomorrow. Happy Valentine's Day!" She waves goodbye.
"Happy Valentine's Day." I wave back and watch the 2 nurses hurry away. That's fine. I was ready to go home anyway. Even though no lover is waiting for me, at least there's a lazy cat waiting for me to feed.
After I reached home, the first thing I did was to feed the cat. I forgot when I first had the cat. Probably since last year's Valentine's Day. At that time, I was like an abandoned cat, with eyes filled with despair. Cats don't cry, I do. That's the only difference.
"Better drink all the milk or I'll skin you." I threatened the cat. Her name is Christine, my least favorite English name. I don't know why I named the cat Christine. Christine meowed once to let me know she heard me, but her eyes are complaining about the severity of my tone. Her eyes remind me of someone I used to know, standing in front of me with eyes full of rebellion.
A year ago today, I had lunch with my boyfriend and took the opportunity to complain to him.
"Today is Valentine's Day. Why didn't you give me any flowers?"He raised his eyebrow.
"Why should I give you flowers? You are not my anyone."
"Then... you should at least give me a card!" I pouted my lips, hurt by his tone.
"I know, I know. After lunch, I'll send you an e-card." E-card. That sounds so impersonal, but that's the way he is.
"You have to e-mail it to me. I'll be waiting." I smiled excitedly and planned to sneak home after lunch to check my e-mail. Even though he wouldn't use any romantic words, I still looked forward to the card.
"I can't stand you women. Why do you make such a big deal out of Valentine's Day??" He grumbled while eating his food. His comment induced me to argue with him again.
"You are not romantic at all!! Don't you watch any Japanese drama?"
"Japanese drama? I only watch Discovery Channel."
"Your life is so boring!" I made a face at him.
"One recent drama was really good. You should have watched it."
"What's that drama called?" He didn't believe in the love portrayed in TV and movies. He always thought they were lies
"It's called 'Story of A Century'." I gladly answered.
"What kind of trashy plot did it have?"
"What do you mean trash?? Show some respect!" I was so angry.
"That drama was very touching, and the theme song was beautiful as well. It's called 'Only Love', performed by Nana Mouskouri." I wonder if he knew who Nana was.
"Nana, I know her. A Greek singer with really expensive albums."
"Her voice is worth it." Even though I secretly agreed with him, I couldn't bring myself to admit it.
"Whatever." He glanced at his watch.
"I'll give you 5 minutes to tell me the plot. After that, I'm leaving." I tried hard to explain 6 hours worth of story in just 5 minutes. The drama portrayed the love stories of 3 generations of women spanning 100 years, from 1901 to 2000. Each generation was portrayed by the same actress. The story was tear-jerking.
"What's so touching about it?" He asked, after listening to the story.
"Don't you think each generation's story is wonderful? If I have such great screen writing ability, I wouldn't be a doctor anymore. I would become a screenwriter."
"If you become a screenwriter, I bet no one would watch the show. The TV station can go out of business." He quickly interupted.
"I'm going back to work. Hurry up and send me the card!" I was so mad that I went home immediately, not even finishing my coffee.

Why lose the one you love Life seems empty?

It’s awful to lose the one you love, particularly if he is everything to you. Life seems empty without him so it's just normal that you'd want him back. Furthermore, you’d naturally ask, “How do I win him back without fail?” as failing to get your ex back will just cause more pain and less self-esteem. Here are some useful tips to guarantee your success.

Make sure first that he’s worth winning back before you ask, “How do I win him back”? Though there are a lot of reasons why couples should go on with their relationship, there are good reasons to let the relationship die, as well. Before you try winning him back, assess first whether the relationship is worth fighting for.

If you're thinking “How do I win him back after I've done something terribly wrong?”, remember that men are more forgiving and can forget a fault more easily compared with girls. But if you never seem to learn and continue committing the same mistake repeatedly, they can get disappointed. Before trying to win him back, try to realize what it is that he dislikes about you and find means so you won't make the same mistake again. If you work things out yourself and start a change for the better, he will be glad about it.

Now, if you ask, “How do I win him back when someone's trying to steal him away”, it can really get complicated. First, you mustn't be fighting over a guy.

If it's just someone attempting to take your boyfriend away but he isn’t biting, simply leave it alone and confront the enemy together if she's getting too exasperating. On the other hand, the best thing to do is to let your boyfriend go if he falls victim. He will see that his actions could lose him the girl he truly loves, otherwise, he will truly fall in love with someone new. It’s better for you to have no guy who gets taken away that easily, either way.

There are some girls who have problems, such as “How do I win him back after he got tired of pursuing me?”. This comes to pass when a girl breaks up with a guy, then the guy pursues the girl until he is exhausted and stops trying, that's when the girl figures out that she still loves him. This is an extremely difficult problem and should’ve been avoided at the get go. The only way out of the problem is just to be direct. Tell him your real feelings and hopefully, he still wants the two of you to get back together. As our modern society, finds it awkward sometimes when it's the girl pursuing the guy, when trying this, each girl must consider, “How do I win him back without being too obvious?”.

Your actions might turn your ex off if he is a little conservative in terms of relationships. Just take things slowly, be prudent, and be frank when necessary. It takes ingenuity to win a guy back but doing it through mind games is also harmful.
